Cargill Consolidates Malt Operations, Marketing Under Cargill Malt NameMINNEAPOLIS- Cargill announced today that it is reorganizing and consolidating all North and South American malting operations and marketing, including Ladish and Schreier, into one entity known as Cargill Malt.“We selected the new name to effectively convey to the marketplace the innovative nature and united mission of our ongoing operations, and have consolidated our multiple facilities into a new organization,” said Doug Eden, president of Cargill Malt. “We will continue to market malt produced in Biggar, Saskatchewan, under the Prairie Malt Limited name to reflect the joint-venture status of that operation.” Eden said that for most customers and suppliers, the name change is merely a formality that acknowledges what they have been aware of for some time. The company last month said that it will begin buying malting barley directly from farmers at its plant in Spiritwood, ND, and will offer farmers in the region, production contracts for specific malting barely varieties. Those new programs are designed to complement its existing elevator-origination programs and to encourage improvements in long-term supplies of high quality US malting barley, Eden said. Cargill Malt is a leading barley malt processor and marketer with North American offices and facilities in Jefferson Junction and Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Spiritwood, North Dakota; and Biggar, Saskatchewan; and a South American facility in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. Cargill also has separately organized international malting barely operations at Herent, Belgium; Strasbourg, France; Salzgitter, Germany; Swalmen, Netherlands; and Villaverde, Spain.
